July marks the beginning of what can be an overwhelming time in the garden. Summer temperatures are really starting to rise, and that means plenty of sun-ripened fruits and veggies ready for harvest and processing.
But, believe it or not, there’s still plenty to plant in the month of July.
What to Plant in July – Zones 9 and 10
If you’re late to the game as far as getting your garden up to snuff this year, you can STILL plant a good variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers and still get a great turnout.
This is what I love about living in a zone with a long growing season; you can just keep succession sowing certain varieties and reap the rewards all year round.
What Vegetables to Plant in July
July vegetable gardens should be in the full swing of production. While it may seem like you have too much to consume yourself or share with others, it’s actually high time to start thinking about and starting a second sowing of warm-weather crops.
This will ensure that you get a continual harvest for fresh eating all season long. Additionally, succession sowing helps cut the cost of produce on your grocery bill.
With what my family consumes on a regular basis, I rarely need to buy produce at the height of my garden’s production. All you have to do is grow vegetables your family regularly consumes and extend your season by succession sowing those varieties every few weeks.
